Our fixed IP service
opens up the possibility of running services on your internal systems
which can can be reached from the internet. Typical applications for
this might be running a mail server internally which connects to the
internet such as Microsoft Exchange, or any standard SMTP mail
server. Other applications for a fixed IP service might be running an
internal web server which can be viewed from outside or V.P.N.
(Virtual Private Networking).
If you run on a fixed IP service you are recommended to purchase a
firewall to protect the internal network from unauthorised outside
access on to your systems. The use of a firewall also provides the
following key features-
Support for NAT (Network Address Translation) to support an unlimited
number of machines connecting to the internet via your firewall.
Ability to map services back to specific machines on your internal
network and set rules on the level of access allowed on a rule basis.
The capability to limit outbound access from your network to specific
remote internet locations at a port or IP address level or a mixture
of the two to stop access to certain services such as Relay Chat or
Gaming.
Our fixed IP service is available with-
A choice of 4 or 8 IP addresses
DNS management for your domain name (includes SMTP mail pointers if
required)
Web space in the form www.yourdomain.co.uk
Domain wide POP3 - i.e. anything mailed to your domain name goes in a
single mailbox
*NEW* SMTP Mail fallback service (stores
your SMTP mail in the event of link failure)
Due to the limited availability of public IP addresses worldwide any
application for a fixed IP service above 4 IP addresses may have to be
justified to RIPE to ensure the requirement is valid.
